We decided back in the early fall that we would camp together in some state park over the new year holidays. We agreed this year it would be Choke Canyon State Park at Three Rivers, Texas. Having read, reviewed and visited several state parks in Texas we really enjoyed Choke Canyon. If one likes large spacious sites, covered gazebo, picnic table, fire pit and cooking grill and alot of wildlife you would enjoy camping at Choke Canyon. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/S0Hbnn9CocI/AAAAAAAABUk/Qic24I8D8Oo/s400/deerturkey.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422856900117176770" /> We arrived on Wednesday and stayed through Sunday. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing time. While there we did some walking and birding as well as cooking out and watching College Bowl games. I can whole-heartedly recommend Choke Canyon to all our camping friends. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/S0Hc8KNNdfI/AAAAAAAABUs/tXyKkzKQYDg/s400/sunset1.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422858352420812274" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 322px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/S0HdNI7dU2I/AAAAAAAABU4/ODlZ5ksBMo4/s400/turkeys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422858644135695202" />

Christmas in McAllen

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/SyzKQVFor0I/AAAAAAAABUE/HewFxVPFYhU/s400/IMG_0200+copy.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416926833707364162" />It's time for me to go get the Airstream from our storage lot a couple of miles down the road and begin to pack. We will leave December 23rd for the Rio Grande Valley. This year we will spend Christmas with our son Phil and his family in McAllen. Our youngest daughter Marlie and her family will spend Christmas in Omaha. Our daughter Amy and her family live in Denver and we will travel to see them after the first of the year. It has been a while since we have been on the road with the Airstream but are looking forward to it. We will keep you posted as to how the trip goes. At this point we may just decide to spend New Year's Eve at a Texas State Park. We have our eyes on Choke Canyon near Three RIvers, Texas.

Our Alaska Cruise was so enjoyable...

This is for all of you who might want to see some selected pictures of our Alaska Cruise

It's not an Airstream but it will do...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/Sizuhwy3NpI/AAAAAAAABI0/Yy1LK2LZd5g/s400/canada-vancouver.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344909121583265426" />For twenty years now Preacher's Wife and I have been talking about taking an Alaskian Cruise. The time has finally arrived. The prices were so right that we thought there may never be a better time. Also, I am aware people like us often go through life saying, "one of these days we ought to go or do...." "or when the kids leave home we should...". Well, a couple of months ago we did it. We booked our cruise. Today we leave for Vancouver and will enjoy a nice night out on the town and leave tomorrow on a northbound cruise to Anchorage. The itinerary shows we stop in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and end up in Anchorage. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/SizuWOD3DoI/AAAAAAAABIs/f2iR2NXvgB4/s400/spirit-in-alaska.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344908923280756354" />Having been fortunate to travel the world, we will now get to see some of the sites we have dreamed and talked so much about. Of all the people who have spoken to us about their experience on an Alaskian Cruise we have never met someone who was disappointed. So wish us well. Hopefully, I will post pictures depending of course on the internet connection. Here are some pictures of my weekend excursion.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/SiPMR5akYJI/AAAAAAAABIc/NUR8_l5OYFM/s320/IMG_1022.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342338190833639570" /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/SiPMLftM7EI/AAAAAAAABIU/DJwKdF_gd0w/s320/IMG_1031.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342338080853257282" />

It's a hard life on the road....

"It's a hard life on the road..." I say this tongue and cheek because life on the road for those who enjoy this kind of life do not find it hard but rather refreshing. There are those who enjoy dry camping or boondocking as it is called. This is where you park anywhere without or with limited amenities. I think independent parking is the preferred term. This of course is when you are prepared to dry camp but make use of amenities when they are available. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 175px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rw2wfKP61tE/ShwlhjI--nI/AAAAAAAABH0/NQvQT1dbKP8/s320/32426.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340184516453399154" />If you know me then you know I am one who prefers amenities. I like to read as well as sit alone in the quiet, but I also like TV (the news, 24, and Lie to Me). So I recently sprung for a VuQube. This is a nice little closed in satellite dish that weighs 15 lbs, that you sit outside and by remote control tune it to operate you Direct or Dish TV receiver. I know! I know! but I enjoy amenities remember.

Longview postponed...

Our trip to Longview had to be postponed due to the passing of a dear friend in Albuquerque. It's probably pretty obvious that we enjoy traveling, and that we love the outdoors. Anne loves to ride off with her Sisters on the Fly from time to time, and we enjoy getting away together as much as possible. As previously stated we do this by incorporating pleasure with our work. We also have a couple of King Charles Cavaliers who travel with us. They can be a handful at times but Bo and Jake seem to like the outdoors as well. One of themes I carry and promote is that life is short, therefore, we should slow down and enjoy our friends as well as the beautiful sights all around us. If you follow this blog you will hear me encouraging you quite often to slow down and enjoy your journey.

Beautiful East Texas

We are excited about having the Airstreams ready to hit the road. Since we are not and probably never will be fully retired, we hope to enjoy traveling and camping in areas where our vocation takes us. We leave next week for the Piney Woods of East Texas. Anne was born in Longview and after we were married and finished college we spent a brief time in the Longview/Tyler area. Someone recently ask, "Why two Airstreams"? My response, "Why not four"? I know it's a sickness, but it is a good kind of sickness. We just love traveling in an Airstream. And regardless of what happens to the rest of our 401k, we each have a home for the future.

Bringing her out of mothballs...

This week Ms. Corzine and I will begin the process of bringing our 34' Airstream out of mothballs. She (the Airstream, not Ms. Corzine) has been stored for the winter and it is time for us to get on the road again. As most of you know we are very active in ministry. Our weekends stay full of ministry opportunities. We love spending as much time as possible in the spring and summer taking the RV and dogs. This is more enjoyable to us than traveling by air and it gives us time to enjoy our lives together. Before we stored the Airstream for winter we decided to remove the couch which was very uncomfortable and install a couple of nice leather chairs and ottoman. We had to remove the batteries and install them on the outside behind the propane tanks. It turned out pretty nice. Anyway, we like it much better. Here are a couple of pictures you might enjoy. We are hoping either this summer or next to have the aluminum trailer stripped and buffed. But until then she is comfortable enough on the inside.

Life is filled with choices...

Life is filled with choices. Someone said, pain or suffering is a reality but misery is optional. So the kind of life you have is based on the kind of choices you make. I realize there are some things we experience in life that comes without a choice. But what you do with, and how you respond to those experiences is very important. One of my earliest life changing choices was when I chose to become a christian. My life has been different from that day til now. It has effected other choices that I have made that has enabled me to enjoy the journey through this life. Look, I'm not trying to convert the world. I am simply saying I made a choice that has changed my life. What you choose is your business. But remember, generally speaking, what you choose is what you get. But for me, what I have chosen has and is enabling me to enjoy life to it's fullest.

THE WINNER: "ALUMINATION"

Last week I posted on Facebook that I was willing to pay a $50.00 finder's fee to the person who could come up with the best name for my 19' Safari Bambi Airstream. I really got some good ones. A couple I can't mention without going into a lot of explanation. Over 100 suggested names came in so I selected the winner today. The winner is Preacher's Wife who came up with the name "Alumination". I knew this was it the minute she said it. You might think this is nepotism but it's not. It's wisdom! She cleans, cooks, washes my clothes and you figure out the rest. But actually I do like it the best. You will even have to admit it's pretty cool. To show you there is no nepotism involved I am giving the money to the person who submitted the most names. The winner of the $50.00 is Bryan Maxwell from Harlingen, Texas. Thanks to everyone who participated. I hope this was fun. Preacher's Wife you are a genius. I love you. Thanks.
